“Si Daddy, ‘Di lang Pang Pamilya, pang Sports pa!” – 2008 Father’s Day Celebration

Over a month ago the Couples’ Ministry put the Moms in the spotlight as it celebrated Mother’s Day. This time the ladies moved over to make way for the men. In fact, a select group of men – the fathers.

The theme for this year’s Father’s Day celebration is: “Si Daddy ‘Di lang pang Pamilya, pang Sports pa.” And sportsmen were exactly how all the Dads who were there felt as Sister Sarah spearheaded in putting up a Mini-Olympics for them.

But before the main event, the Dads and their families first received spiritual and physical nourishment. The spiritual feeding began with songs and prayers which were beautifully led by the children of some members of the Couples Ministry. This lovely sight showed how the Lord can use each family member, even the little ones for His glory. This is a sweet display of victory both of the parents and the Lord.

The praise and worship was followed by a timely message given by Sis Zeny. She spoke about the fathers being the watchmen of their families as pointed out in the book of Ezekiel. Having been reminded of their roles as heads of the household, the VIPs of the night were served an energy- boosting dinner by their loving wives. This was done as the young performers headed by the son of Brod Pete played on stage some lovely songs to the delight of everyone..

The night will not be complete without the husbands’ production number. Who will forget a rapper who lipped sync? Who will not smile while gazing on Dads’ wobbling bodies? Who will not laugh as each one cracked out their own punch lines? Who will be bored with two seemingly blind singers who courageously finished their songs while others were throwing coins in their cups? It was a really fun-filled entertainment for the Moms.

The mood turned sporty when the Mini-Olympics was formally opened by the symbolic lighting of the torch by Sister Sarah. Excitement was high as two cheering groups, composed of the vivacious and very-much-in-shape sister-wives and their children, impressed the Dads by their superb performances. The families were divided into four teams – red, green, yellow and blue. Family members could coach the Dads but only they, being the stars of the night, were allowed to play. They competed in four kinds of games which provided physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual challenge. The competition finished off with the red team bagging the grand prize while selected Dads received special awards.

EIt’s not all about winning, though, because the Mini-Olympics did not only become a fun way of playing and competing but a priceless moment of bonding with the wives and children as well.

Congratulations, Dads! You are truly the champions of your family! - By: Sister Elaine Tan
